WHO WAS THE GOD MOSES KNEW?
Now
Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian; and he
led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God,
even to Horeb.
2
And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst
of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush
was not consumed.
3
And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush
is not burnt.
4
And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of
the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5
And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the
place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6
Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to
look upon God.
7
And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people, which are in
Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know
their sorrows;
8
And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptiands, and to bring them up out of
that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and
honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites,
and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
9
Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I
have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
10
Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring
forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11
And Moses said unto God, Who am I that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I
should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12
And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto
thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of
Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
13
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and
shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they
shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them?
14
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou
say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.
15
And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto
The
children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name
for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
In
versus 6 God said “I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob.”
God
is saying that he is the same God that he was for Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and he
would be the same God for Moses and the children of Israel, and what he did for
them he will do for us. Here we see God
does not change he is saying to us that what he did in the Old Testament he
will do for us also.
God
doesn’t change we put limits on God and when we do he can’t work for us because
we don’t have the faith that he can.
Remember
in the New Testament Jesus couldn’t perform miracles in this one town because
of their unbelief.
If
we don’t truly believe God is who he says he and can do what he tells us he can
do than we can’t truly praise him because to praise something you know their
abilities what they are capable of and what they are not. So we have to know
God that way and believe what he says then we can praise that he is worthy of.
Moses
also said that he hid his face; for he was a afraid to look upon God. Moses had
a Godly fear of God and I am sure he could feel his righteousness so his
fleshly body couldn’t look upon God because of the sin nature of our
flesh. Sin can’t handle the
righteousness of God. That is why the closer we get to God the less sin we will
have in our lives, because Jesus said if we draw nigh to him, he would draw
nigh to us. So the closer we get to God, the more like God we become
(Righteous) and sin can not stay around very long when righteousness is
present. Matt.5: 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall
exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case
enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Note
that I said you will have less sin, not sinless. Because as long as we are in
this flesh we will still slip up and sin somewhere. Even Jesus said if we say
we have no sin than we lie. DON’T use this versus as some I have heard use or
maybe I should say abuse it. They live any which way and allow sin in their
lives and then use the excuse well the Bible said we will sin and as long as we
are in the fleshly body that will happen. That is where we twist the scriptures
to make our flesh feel better but we harm our spirit. Again I will repeat
myself, because this is very important the closer we get to God the LESS sin we
will have in our lives. That means we should only sin occasionally not
willfully. And correct me if I am wrong. The Bible says that as long as we are
in this flesh we will sin, but it doesn’t say it will be a daily thing. I
believe that when you get close to God you can go a day or even days without
sin.
I
John 1:8
If
we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
KJV
Study Bible note on 1:8
Others
seem to have been claiming that they had no sin. Jesus had taught that those
who owned up to their sin could find forgiveness, while those who were blind to
their sin would be left mired in it (John 9:41)
John
9:41
Jesus
said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We
see; therefore your sin remaineth.
Hebrews
10:26
For
if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth,
there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.
KJV
Study Bible note on 10:26
They
warn of the critical danger of turning form Christ’s once-for-all, perfect
sacrifice back to their old ways. (Robin’s note: It is dangerous to do the
things we did in our sinful life now that we know Christ.) IF WE SIN WILLFULLY
reveals that this is deliberate. It parallels the sin of Numbers 15:30,31.
Numbers
15:30,31
But
the soul that doeth aught presumptuously (defiantly), whether he be born in the
land or a stranger, the same reproacheth the Lord; and that soul shall be cut
off from among his people.
Because
he hath despised the word of the Lord, and hath broken his commandment, that
soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.
When
one willingly or defiantly disobeyed God, there was no sacrifice for such
apostasy.
Don’t
be deceived by people when they okay sin. Just because they go to church, or
say they are a Christian. Open your ears and listen what God is telling you.
Read his word and listen when he speaks and say Lord here Iam and obey him not
man.
You
might be saying what does all this have to do with worship or praise?
Matt.
15:8-9
This
people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoreth me with their lips;
but their heart is far from me.
But
in vain they do worship me, Teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
First of all in order to worship and praise
the Lord we need to live holy lives and draw closer to the Lord and get to know
him personally. He speaks to us today just like he did back then except when he
speaks to us it is in our heart we just have to listen and have enough faith
that it is God speaking.
1Peter
1:15-16
But
as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation;
Because
it written, Be ye Holy; for I AM Holy.
1Peter 2:9,11
But
ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar
people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of
darkness into his marvelous light.
Dearly
beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims; abstain from fleshly lusts,
which war against the soul.
Back
to Exodus 3:7 in this versus God said he heard the cry of his people. This
shows that he hears us when we cry out. It may take a while for us to hear an
answer but he hears us as soon as we cry out to him.
In
versus 11 Moses said who am I that I should go to Pharaoh? I feel that Moses
didn’t feel worthy enough to do the job. But God knew he was the one for the
job.
And
God answered him in versus 12 and said certainly I will be with thee; and this
shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee. That is how we know when a
calling on our lives is from God, when we get up to do what God has called us
to do he will be there and gives us the words that we need. Before I get up
here on Wednesday I don’t have anything and I pray and say Lord I need you and
can’t do this without you. If it were I up here it would benefit no one. And
before I get up God has already filled me up with his message and there has
been a few times I didn’t have anything till I got up but God was there and he
gave me what I and the people needed. That is when you know God is real and
your calling is real. I had prophecies that stated I was called to preach, and
I had dreams that I was up preaching real strong with God’s word and it was
really ministering to people and then my dad said when mom was pregnant with me
he thought for sure I was going to be a boy because he really felt I was going
to preach. He even disagreed with the doctors when they told him I was a girl.
But
I never felt worthy enough or I could never see how I could do that. And there
is the key we can’t do it but with God we can. So when I read this versus it
really touched me because when I get up here I know God is with me, because I
couldn’t do this.
Moses
said when they ask me who sent me whom shall I say?
And
God said I AM THAT I AM. I love that. IAM THAT IAM, doesn’t that just do
something to your spirit when you hear that? I AM THAT I AM MEANS he is
everything.
